Each of us has its own interest or has a hobby. Some love all kinds of books, music, and movies while others are into sports and traveling. There are also people who love to grow flowers and loves pets. These things help us to relax and forget our everyday problems and troubles and these things are common to people. But not everyone has a hobby that makes money for him/her except if you love your job.

A money making hobby could let you treat your family and friends with the extra cash or you can even quit your current job that you almost certainly hate. That is why many of us today go online to start a business; their reasons are either to supplement their income or to gradually replace their offline income from their job. Affiliate marketing is a great way to start in making money online.

Affiliate marketing is a revenue sharing partnership between a web merchant and one or more affiliates. The affiliate is paid a commission for referring clicks, leads or most often sales to the merchant. An affiliate’s advantage is that he can make money in a business where he doesn’t have the upfront costs of creating his own product, and he doesn’t have to worry about e-commerce, bookkeeping, or even customer support for it is the merchant’s responsibility.

Now, for sure you want to be an affiliate marketer with all that benefits an affiliate could get. But, do you have what it takes to be an affiliate marketer? Before you begin your venture into affiliate marketing, you need to decide first which area interests you. What products do you know the most and which products you could do the best job of selling? Once you discover your specialty, perseverance, patience, determination comes next. These are the qualities you should possess to be a good affiliate marketer.

Too many online business prospectors lose out because they become impatient. You also have to know what your strengths are, the things in which you are good at and your capabilities and abilities related to your chosen streak. And the most important thing is you have to have a strong desire to succeed in affiliate marketing.

To be an affiliate marketer is not an easy task. You have to learn the techniques of marketing your product or service. You shouldn’t be looking at every chance because marketing is all about attracting you to look at this or that particular opportunity. To be a successful affiliate marketer, you should learn how to listen and to be taught because in life we need to learn skills to get by.

For an affiliate marketer, you should know how to market your site effectively, in will enable you to get thousands of visitors coming to your site which transforms into more sales. This only means that the faster you set up a website, the bigger your chances of making money online faster. You should avoid the same mistakes some affiliates make everyday, they are only building a short-term business where they just make a small sale. Make sure you do understand that you should be building a long-term affiliate business and not just something that makes you a few dollars on one sale.

It is also better to have knowledge on how to upsell your visitors for expensive services. This will in turn make you become recognized as an expert in your field and making money will be easier. There are some people who think that just by having affiliate links on their website will bring them good profits. This can have some truth to it, but then most successful affiliates still believe that making use of strong marketing campaigns for their affiliate programs is still important. But affiliate marketers become much more successful when they treat their customers or online visitors as friends. Make a commitment to establish relationships with your customers and especially with visitors to your site. It is very important for an affiliate marketer to have a good business relationship with customers or visitors.

You should also be creative. The real key to being successful with affiliate marketing is to develop a good content based website and weave your affiliate links into all your content. You have to provide your prospects with good, quality content to keep them coming back to your site. So, do you have what it takes to be an affiliate marketer?

The Benefits of Being an Affiliate Marketer

Affiliate marketing has become one of the most effective ways to advertise online. It is also one of the easiest ways for anyone with a website to make a profit online. Affiliate Marketing is an agreement between a merchant and a website owner. The website owner, or the affiliate, allows the use of their site for the promotion of the merchant’s products by linking to the merchant’s website. In exchange, the merchant pays a commission to the affiliate on all sales generated by the affiliate. Every time someone clicks on the link on the affiliate website and proceeds to make a purchase, the affiliate gets a commission. The merchant will pay the affiliate only when a customer clicks on the product link and makes a purchase.

Affiliate marketing programs are described as a win-win situation for both the merchant and the affiliate because of the pay-for-performance scheme. Both the merchant and the affiliate enjoy some benefits in affiliate marketing. There are many benefits on the merchant’s side. It gives the merchant a wider market in which to advertise a product or service. Affiliate marketing will give the product or service the maximum exposure that it may not get with other traditional advertising techniques. The more affiliate sites a merchant has, the higher the traffic, which can convert to sales. Affiliate marketing is the equivalent of having an army of sales people who will do the advertising and will only get a commission if a customer purchases.

Meanwhile, since an affiliate marketing relationship is a win-win situation, the affiliate also enjoys many benefits. Foremost among these is the easy way to make a profit. The affiliate can earn by having an ad or link to the merchant’s website, which prospective customers will hopefully click and proceed to make a purchase. As soon as the customer clicks on the ad on the affiliate’s site, is redirected to the merchant’s website and goes on to buy that particular product, the affiliate earns a commission. The more referrals there are the more profit for the affiliate.

Affiliate marketing is an excellent way to earn money while at home. There are virtually no production costs. The product is already developed and proven by the merchant, and all you have to do to find as many prospects as you can that will bring in the profit for both the merchant and the affiliate. Affiliate programs are usually free to join, so affiliates do not have to worry about start-up costs. There are thousands of products and services you can choose from. You can find affiliate programs for every product under the sun. Surely, there is a product or service out there that is relevant to your website.

In addition, there is absolutely no sales experience necessary. Most affiliate programs offer excellent support when it comes to providing marketing material. The simplicity of affiliate marketing allows you to be an affiliate marketer at the least cost and the most comfort. You can even build a successful affiliate marketing business right in the convenience of your own home. In affiliate marketing, your responsibility is simply to find prospects for the merchant; you do not have to worry about inventory, order processing, and product shipping. These, along with customer service support are the duties of the merchant.

Because of the global reach of the internet, you can easily find thousands of prospects. You can intensify your advertising campaign by exploiting more aggressive and productive strategies such as viral marketing. By attracting more prospects, you also maximize your potential to earn. Another benefit of an affiliate marketer is the minimal risk involved. If the product you are advertising is not making money then you can dump it and choose another. There are no long-term binding contracts tying you to products that are not making enough money.

All the same, the best benefit of being an affiliate marketer is the opportunity to increase your income; and you can make a profit even if affiliate marketing is only a sideline business. With your own affiliate business, you can earn easily earn extra income, although you do have to exert effort and use your imagination to maximize your earning potential. Indeed, affiliate marketing is one of the simplest and most effective business opportunities on the web today.

Week 4

Week 4 of the challenge was a bit of a let down as there was not really a lot of new information imparted to us.  The main point was keep doing what we’ve been doing –  post to my blog, post to other peoples blogs and forums, provide relevant content.

Week 3 Wrap-up

Well, I must admit that I’ve been remiss about posting my updates. I did struggle a bit in getting everything set up for my autoresponder but I did get it installed. I am offering to you a 30-part WordPress Tutorial delivered over a 10-day period. There is some good information there.

I have chosen to use Aweber as my autoresponder. It has a drag and drop feature to set up my optin box that is on the right and the one that comes in after a few seconds. By the way, I’ve wondered if that is annoying to my visitors so chime in below and leave me a comment about whether is should stay or go. I found that setting up the emails with the tutorial links took the longest.  Now, I just need to get visitors to come to my blog!

Building a List

Week 3 of the challenge is about On Demand Income. Wow, how are we supposed to do that? The secret lies in building a list. You want to build a relationship with your visitors so that they get to know you, like you, and trust you. You do this by providing good, relevant content.

In order to build a list you will need something on your site that invites the visitor to enter their email address. This can be done via the sidebar or on a squeeze page. Typically, you would get a plugin for the sidebar. A squeeze page would be a separate page on your site that you would drive traffic to directly. The purpose of both of these methods is the same.

The next question is why would someone give you their information? The method of choice is to offer them something in return. This could be an eBook, an article, or the promise to provide them relevant information on a regular basis. Whatever you choose, it must be worthwhile.

So what are you going to do with the list once you have it? You are going to continue to provide them relevant content and continue to build your relationship with you visitors. At times you may present an offer to purchase something. Hopefully, by this time you’ve built a solid relationship and they trust that what you’re offering is something that they need or want.

The glue that makes all of this come together is software call an autoresponder. This will collect the visitors information and store it in a database. You can configure the autoresponder to send emails to your list on a predetermined schedule. To see what one person might provide, signup on the right of this post and I’ll show you. For more information about where you can find autoresponders check out my resources page.

In summary, Step 3 of The Quick Start Challenge is to start building a list.

  1. Get an autoresponder.
  2. Get something to give away.
  3. Add an optin on either the sidebar or create a squeeze page

Keep going, we’re almost there. Let me know what you’re thinking.

Week 2 Wrap-up

Week 2 was about driving traffic but perhaps more important if you’re going to be successful is that it was also about getting you out of your comfort zone. The two primary tasks for this week were to create a video and to start participating in forums and blogs as a way to have people become interested in what I have to say and, as a result, visit my blog.

I initially thought that making the video was the thing that would put me out of my comfort zone and it was to some extent. However, I found that participating in blogs and forums is even more uncomfortable for me. As a result I have pretty much lost this week in putting myself out there. I will need to redouble my efforts in the coming week.

I did have an interesting encounter with one forum I attempted to join. I was required to join the forum and, once I did, I received an email specifying that I should go to a particular thread called Introductions. I should introduce myself, tell a little bit about my interests and what I was doing, and that I could put a link to my blog. So that is exactly what I did. The next thing I know I got another email telling me that I was not allowed to promote my website and that my post had been edited. I checked it out and, sure enough, everything I mentioned about this blog was gone. It was basically reduced to ‘Hi. My name is Nancy. Nice to get to know you.’ I then wrote back apologizing for breaking their rules but didn’t understand what I had done wrong, I had done just what they told me I could in the introductory email. Not too much later I got yet another email saying that the person who truncated my post shouldn’t have and that I did nothing wrong. However, they could not restore the deleted text and it was past the time I had to edit it. But, I could reply to my original post and put in the information that was deleted. So the question is what to do now? I have decided to just let this forum go. Primarily because most of the threads I looked at that were of interest were closed and I could post anything there anyway.

My takeaway from this is to make sure you know the rules of the forum and follow them. And make sure that the forum is one you really want to participate in.

For now, on to getting myself out there and breaking out of my comfort zone. Tell me what you think.

How to Add a YouTube Video to Your Website

Putting a YouTube video on your website is pretty easy. Here’s how:

  1. Go to your video on YouTube and click on the link below it that says ‘Share’.
  2. Another area will open up with the URL of your video.
    a. Click on the link above that that says ‘Embed’.
    b. Copy the code that is highlighted, it starts with the iframe HTML code.
  3. Go back to your website and create your new post.
    a. When you get to where you want to put your video, click on ‘Text’ at the top of your post (this allows you to put in your own HTML code).
    b. Paste the code you copied from YouTube.
  4. Click on ‘Visual’, next to the text link. (This will allow you to see you post as the visitor does. You may not see your video right away, only the box it will be in.
  5. Click on ‘Save Draft’ then on ‘Preview’.

That should do it. When you’re happy, ‘Publish’ it.

Driving Traffic with Videos

Week 2 of The Quick Start Challenge is all about driving traffic to you blog or website. Videos are a great way to get traffic to come to you blog. This week’s challenge included creating a video and posting it both to YouTube and my blog. I was definitely put out of my comfort zone, but here it is.

I hope you enjoy it. Leave a comment and let me know what you think.

A theme is a template of how you want your blog to look. The most common sections are the header, the footer, the sidebar, and the main area called the loop. There’s a pretty good explanation of this at Yoast.com. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of themes you can choose from. Some are free and some you must pay for. A great starting point is WordPress.org. However, just Google ‘WordPress themes’ and you will find many other places that provide themes.

The theme I am currently using is call Flexibility 3 (note the bottom of my blog) provided free from FlexibilityTheme.com. And they have several videos to help explain all of  its options and how to use it. It was recommended to me by my new Challenge friend LeslieZ.

Getting Traffic to My Blog

We are now into Week 2 of the The Quick Start Challenge and this week is all about traffic. How do we get traffic to our blog? Do we want to pay for it or do we want to work a bit harder and get free traffic? This week we are looking at how to get FREE traffic. It is something that will take some time and will build slowly if done right. With that being said…

Step 2 -  Direct traffic to our blog!

Once you do get someone to your blog you want there to be interesting content and you want visitors to see that there are other people interested in it. The way to do this is to write something that has value and is on a topic that will engage your visitors. You want to encourage your visitors to participate by leaving a comment and make sure you acknowledge their thoughts.

But the big question is ‘How do you get the visitors there in the first place?’ It almost seems like a Catch-22. You need to engage visitors in order to have an active site but you need an active site to engage visitors.

This task will have several action items. Here are the steps to work on this week to start getting visitors to your blog.
1. Find a forum or two that is in your niche, join it, and become an active participant. You want to pick a forum that is active (people are making posts and leaving comments and they are current).
2. Create a signature which will contain a link back to your blog. Note that the forum may require you to make several posts or comments before it will show your signature so check out their rules.
3. Find posts that are of interest to you and leave a comment. Your posts and comments must provide worthwhile information not just ‘Hey, nice post’.
4. Once you signature’s link shows, people will click on it to take a look at your blog. This is why you must leave relevant comments, to entice the forum members to want to see what else you have to say.
5. Make this a part of your daily activities.

You can also use these same forum activities on individual blogs. Just find blogs of like-minded people who may be interested in what you have to say.

Finally, the last action item for this week is to create a video – out of my comfort zone, for sure. Once my video is complete, I will post it on YouTube and also on this blog. You want the video to be at least 30 seconds long and, if at all possible, be and ‘on camera’ style video where people see you.

I’m making the video because it is a great way to communicate with YOU, my visitors, and hopefully we will build a great relationship. Depending on just how uncomfortable this task is there may be more videos in my future.

Another benefit of making the video is that it is an additional way to drive traffic to my blog. So I will want to make sure I mention the name of my blog in the video and in the text associated with it.

Well, there’s your assignment for Week 2. Lot’s to do. Make sure you leave me a comment and let me know what you are thinking!
